We were gifted an Owlet Smart Sock that a friend used for her baby. When our daughter was about 3-weeks-old, the notification for high heart rate went off for the first time. She looked and acted fine so we brushed it off as a malfunction thinking it was a used Sock so maybe it didn't work quite right. Over the course of a few months, the notification would periodically go off again telling us a high heart rate was detected and each time we checked her, she looked fine and again we brushed it off. Her doctor said it was likely that the alarm just picked up the normally ever-changing heart rate and triggered the alarm.
Then about a week ago, the alarm went off again. I checked my baby and this time I could feel how fast it really was beating. The alarm said 230 bpm. I took her pulse five minutes later and got 200 bpm and 240 bpm five minutes later. We were advised by her doctor to take her into the ER just in case. When we got there, her heart was registering at 279 bpm!! It got up over 300 while we were there and the doctors eventually had to give her a drug to stop her heart in hopes that it would start again and be in a normal rhythm. After an EKG, she was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia and is also being tested for Wolff Parkinson White syndrome. It was the scariest night of our lives, but we are so thankful for the Owlet Smart Sock for notifying us to help us with our baby. Our daughter is alive and being treated for two heart conditions that we never would have known existed. Thank you!!!
