My husband suggested we get an Owlet Smart Sock for our third baby, our son Talin. As a healthcare provider, I was a little resistant. I knew there wasn’t scientific evidence of these kinds of monitors preventing adverse outcomes, so it seemed like a lot of money to spend on a gadget.
But our second child, our daughter, our Jaya, died of SIDS in June of 2016. So, if that's what daddy wanted for our new baby, if it made him feel better, he could have it.
Wow, I have benefited so much more than I ever imagined. The anxiety around Talin sleeping is huge, so being able to open an app on my phone and know Talin is okay, is amazing. I don't have to wonder what is going on. If I have the sock on, and the base station turned on with my app, I “know” if he's okay. So thank you, from me, my husband, and our collective mental health.
Jaya would have been 2 years old tomorrow. I don't know that the sock could have prevented what happened to her, but I'm so thankful to have it for our baby son.
